As promised, here’s the review – truffle by glorious truffle.
Black Pearl
Ginger + wasabi + dark chocolate + black sesame seeds
The wasabi and ginger blend very well with the dark chocolate, giving it a very organic and earthy flavor. If you’re a fan of dark chocolate, and feeling adventurous, th Black Pearl is a brilliant choice.
Dulce de leche
Argentinean dulce de leche + milk chocolate + Costa Rican cashews
Although this one isn’t exotic or unique, the rich Dulce de Leche was balanced perfectly with flavor of the cashews. Nothing spectacular, but delicious in it’s simplicity.
Red Fire
Mexican ancho & chipotle chillies +Ceylon cinnamon + dark chocolate
With a name like Red Fire, I was expecting a pretty bold experience, but was a bitr disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a damn fine chocolate, I just wanted the spiciness and chili flavor to be more prominent.
Sale del Mare
Sicilian sea salt + burnt sugar caramel + sweet milk chocolate ganache
At first taste, I knew this would be Megan’s favorite, and it was. The caramel has a unique-but-familiar flavor to it, and although the caramel/chocolate combination in and of itself is nothing special, this truffle was outstanding.
Tian Nacu
Mexican vanilla bean + Venezuelan dark chocolate
The ever-so-slight Mexican vanilla flavor is expertly balanced with the dark chocolate in such a brilliant simplicity that I can’t help but be in culinary awe – a minimalist masterpiece.
Hip-Hop
Krug champagne + gold leaf + white chocolate
As yet untasted – review coming soon.
Chef Pascal
Kirsch + dark chocolate + dried Michigan cherry
As yet untasted – review coming soon.
Oaxaca
Tanzanian chocolate + organic pumpkin seeds
As yet untasted – review coming soon.
Woolloomooloo
Australian macadamia nut + coconut + deep milk chocolate
The coconut flavor was prevalent throughout the rich milk chocolate. It’s like an elegant version of a Mounds bar.
Funk & Disco
Banana + sweet milk chocolate
I bit into the Funk & Disco without knowing what it was. The banana flavor was just subtle enough to leave me wondering what the flavor was, and complemented the sweet milk chocolate in a most excellent fashion.
Balsamico
Modena twelve-year-aged balsamic vinegar + dark chocolate + roasted hazelnuts
I wouldn’t have expected these two flavors to be so good together, but the sharp tang of the balsamic vinegar was the perfect complement to the rich dark chocolate, and the hazelnut provided a light finishing touch. Brilliant.
Ambrosia
Macadamia nuts + Cointreau + white chocolate
I’m a fan of the Cointreau, it’s true. And pairing it with white chocolate? Well, now that’s almost as great as bacon and chocolate together! I think this one’s pretty much my favorite so far.
Viola
Milk chocolate + candied violet flower
Nothing special with this one, just a candied violet on top (which was tasty, mind you). It was good, but not nearly as dramatic as I expected from it’s appearance.
.
Budapest
Sweet Hungarian paprika + dark chocolate
The paprika flavor was a bit too understated for my liking. It was nice, but barely noticeable. The budapest was probably my least-favorite, which is kinda like being one of the four other actors that didn’t win the Oscar – as bad is that sucks, you’re still better than just about everyone else.
.
Wink of the Rabbit
Soft caramel + deep milk chocolate + organic New Mexican pecan
Not that different from the Sale del Mare. The caramel wasn’t as rich or outstanding, but the Pecan was nice.
Naga
Sweet Indian curry powder + coconut + milk chocolate
My second-favorite, hands down. The curry imparted a truly unique richness and depth. This one would be fantastic after an indian feast!
Well, that’s it – sixteen of the most amazing chocolate experiences one could hope for. To quote a very wise man “it is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend getting one“
